For successful completion of the Ãå±±½ûµØ Honors Program, along with the curricular requirements outlined in the College Catalog, students are required to demonstrate:
The Ãå±±½ûµØ Honors Program is intentionally designed to be a supportive, active, and engaged community. A significant part of any community is participation and engagement. The Ãå±±½ûµØ Honors Program requires this engagement to maintain membership. Each year, Honors students are required to attend vital events in the life of the community and a number of other significant events within that community. This participation leads to the development of the community and strengthens and supports it. Students who do not fulfill these requirements in a given semester will be required to meet with the Director to discuss their status in the College Honors Program. Students who do not participate according to the expectations of the Program as outlined below will not be able to graduate with Honors.
*Students who attend class trips for a class they are enrolled in do not receive Academic Event Credit, as it is part of that class’s requirements. Students who attend class trips outside of their own courses can receive Academic Event Credit.
Leadership was on full display at the 2nd Annual Honors Banquet! Over thirty different students received awards ranging from awards for being apart of the Admissions Team to being a Peer Facilitator for an honors first year seminar.
At this year’s Honors Symposium, the Honors Program honored seventeen students who are graduating with honors. All types of research was presented by the senior honors students to a room full of fellow students, administrators, professors, and family.
On this alternative spring break offered through the Roukema Center and CCEC, 15 honors students traveled to Nepal for a spring break that was full of service and cultural immersion. While in Nepal, the students visited the capital, Kathmandu, and its surrounding metropolitan area of Patan and Bhaktapur. Additionally, the students went to the rural village of Bathali where they did road construction, milk processing, home reinforcing, and brick-making. After spending three days in rural Nepal, the students returned to Kathmandu and visited Ashmina Ranjit at her feminist cafe and learned about feminism in Nepal. Lastly, student visited the UNESCO world heritage site of Swayambhunath before taking the long flight back to the United States.
In our second annual alumni panel, students enjoyed the company of four former honors alumni. The night allowed students from all four years to ask questions of their elder peers about how to best proceed through the unique experience of the honors program.
In our first ever Honors Banquet, over 50 students attended to celebrate our incredible year in Honors! In this black-and-white themed soiree, all seniors and student leaders received awards, followed by a dance in the Pavilion!
